About Acupuncture-Acutherapy Council

    The Acupuncture -Acutherapy Council is a professional register that specialises in promoting well qualified, safe and effective practitioners of Acupuncture and those therapies that focus on acupressure points.

    All member practitioners are qualified, insured and adhere to strict codes of practice and ethics so that you can expect high quality, safe professional treatment.

    Acupuncture-Acutherapy Council (AcuC) is represented by Maria Mercati which was founded in 1995 under the name of Bodyharmonics. Maria was a prominent member of the Acupuncture Stakeholder Group (ASG), which was working towards Statutory Regulation. It included all the major UK Voluntary Regulatory Bodies like the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS), Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) and the British Academy of Western Medicial Acupuncture (BAWMA) who met quarterly to discuss standards and possible regulation of acupuncture. This acupuncture stakeholder group was ended when British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) was accredited by PSA Voluntary Regulation.

    AcuC is a professional body that actively liaises with government and other organizations on specific issues related to acupuncture, its educational standards and safe, effective practice.

    Complimentary Natural Healthcare CouncilA voluntary self regulatory register was opened in April 2011 under the governance of the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).
    Membership of the Acupuncture-Acutherapy Council is necessary to register with CNHC.

    Acupuncture-Acutherapy Council has representation on the Profession Specific Board (PSB) of the CNHC in respect of Microsystems. Maria Mercati was appointed a member of the PSB to provide advice to the CNHC Board about microsystems acupuncture specific issues

    mawrg image Acupuncture-Acutherapy Council is a founder member of the Microsystems Acupuncture Regulatory Working Group (MARWG) which was designed to co-ordinate, regulate and promote the Microsystems Acupuncture Profession. Maria Mercati worked towards achieving voluntary self regulation under the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). This new register is for Microsystems Acupuncture.
